Facebook Pixel & CAPI Integration for ActBlue

A full-stack analytics engineering engagement to design and build Meta advertising integrations directly into one of the largest fundraising platforms in the United States.

Client

ActBlue

ActBlue is the leading technology platform for Democratic campaigns, political organizations, and nonprofits — powering grassroots fundraising for thousands of clients since 2004. As the event processor for donation flows across its platform, ActBlue sits at the center of a complex multi-tenant data environment where accurate, secure tracking is essential.

The engagement

ActBlue reached out to leverage our expertise to design a built-in Facebook Pixel and Conversions API integration feature within their platform. This was a full-stack analytics engineering engagement — we started from requirements gathering, moved through feature design, produced wireframes for all screens, and worked with the engineering team to architect data segmentation for event capture and forwarding into Meta ads.

We acted as part product management consultant, part engineering consultant, and wore our marketing analytics hat throughout — anticipating the features users would expect based on our knowledge of the landscape and the leading tracking products in the space.

Designing the product experience

We translated requirements into complete wireframes and user flows covering the full integration lifecycle — from initial setup through ongoing configuration and monitoring. The goal was a native ActBlue experience that felt as capable as standalone tracking tools, without requiring clients to leave the platform or manage fragile third-party workarounds.

Working alongside ActBlue's engineering team, we defined how donation events, page views, and conversion signals would be captured, segmented, and prepared for forwarding — balancing flexibility for individual campaigns with guardrails that keep the platform reliable at scale.

A tracking platform within a fundraising platform

Because ActBlue is the event processor — and a platform with many clients — we had to wall off data capture and design a system to ensure all events were forwarded into the correct pixel IDs with the correct Conversions API tokens. Each client's Meta credentials and event streams needed to remain isolated while sharing common infrastructure.

We essentially built a tracking platform within their fundraising platform: multi-tenant event routing, secure credential handling, and reliable server-side forwarding that could scale with ActBlue's volume and client base.
